Japan Fair at TICAD Business Expo & Conference, a TICAD 9 Thematic Event

EDU-Port Japan set out a booth at the Japan Fair at the TICAD Business Expo & Conference, a thematic event at TICAD 9, the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development, held in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, 2025.

The Japan Fair was held in the PACIFICO Yokohama Exhibition Hall as a business-matching platform for showcasing the products, technologies, and services of Japanese companies to high-level government officials (heads of state and ministers) and business leaders from African nations visiting Japan during TICAD 9. EDU-Port Japan exhibited in the area themed “Skills for the Future”.

The booth showcased EDU-Port Japan initiatives such as “Tokkatsu (Special Activities)” at the Egypt-Japan Schools (EJS), as well as various projects implemented by partner organizations in Africa. In addition, the products, technologies, and services of EDU-Port Japan platform member organizations currently operating in Africa or aiming to expand into the region were also introduced.

Over the three days, approximately 10,000 people attended the TICAD Business Expo & Conference, and more than 500 visitors from over 37 countries came to the EDU-Port Japan booth. On the first day, Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Toshiko Abe, and Egypt’s Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif visited the booth and enthusiastically viewed the exhibits related to the initiatives of the Egypt-Japan Schools (EJS).

In addition, many visitors showed keen interest in the panels, catalogs, teaching materials, and videos introducing actual initiatives. An African educator commented, “Since we are working on digital and online education, we would like to contact the exhibiting companies to explore possible collaboration.” And a Japanese corporate representative remarked, “I learned about the characteristics and strengths of the Japanese-style education system which I had not been aware of until now.”

The exhibition provided a valuable opportunity not only to showcase the initiatives, products, and services of EDU-Port Japan platform member organizations to booth visitors, but also to widely communicate the unique characteristics of Japanese-style education and EDU-Port Japan projects.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who visited the booth, as well as to all the organizations that cooperated with our participation in the event.
