On May 29, 2026, two representatives from the Castillo Hermanos Foundation in Guatemala, who were visiting Japan, came to the EDU-Port Japan Secretariat together with H.E. Mr. Jacobo Cuyún Salguero, the Guatemalan Ambassador to Japan, and others. During the visit, they exchanged views with the secretariat staff regarding EDU-Port Japan’s initiatives and the characteristic features of Japanese education.
The Castillo Hermanos Foundation was established in 1990 as the social contribution arm of Castillo Hermanos, one of Guatemala’s leading business groups. It works to address social issues in the country, focusing on education, nutrition improvement, and disaster relief.
Founded in 1963, the foundation’s Castillo Cordova School provides high quality education free of charge to the children of local residents and company employees, aiming to cultivate future leaders who will drive social change.
The EDU-Port Japan secretariat staff introduced EDU-Port’s objectives and its initiatives around the world to date, explaining its future plans to promote Japan’s holistic education, which balances development of “Solid academic ability”, “Richness in mind”, and “Healthy body”, as an international education program. They also provided an overview of Japan’s school education system with videos.
The Castillo Hermanos Foundation’s representatives and the Guatemalan Ambassador asked questions about EDU-Port Japan’s past projects in Central and South America and how AI is being used in Japanese school education. They also shared their desire to take Japan’s education model back to Guatemala to support human resource development, as well as their respect for Japanese culture and their wish to incorporate it into Guatemalan education.
